मोहब्बत मौज है, साहिल नहीं है	Love is a wave, not a shore
मेरी अफ़्सुर्दगी पे हँसने वाले	You, who laugh at my sadness
तेरे पहलु में शायद दिल नहीं है	Perhaps you have no heart within you
ना रुकते है आंसू ना थमते हैं नाले	The tears don't stop, nor do the laments cease
कोई उन से जा के ज़रा इतना कह दे	Someone please go and tell them

क़ासिद पयाम-ए-खत को देना बहुत न तूल	Messenger, don’t make the message of love too long
बस मुख़्तसर ये कहना के अब	Just say this briefly

कहो कोई कैसे मोहब्बत छुपा ले	Tell me, how can someone hide their love?
करे क्या कोई वो जो आए यकायक	What can one do when love comes suddenly?
निगाहों को रोके या दिल को संभाले	Should they hold back their gaze or guard their heart?
चमन वाले बिजली से बोलें न चालें	Those in the garden should neither speak nor act hastily
गरीबों के घर बे-खता फूँक डाले	But they burn down the homes of the innocent poor
क़यामत है ज़ालिम की नीची निगाहें	Doom lies in the lowered gaze of the tyrant
खिलना कम कम कली ने सीखा है	The bud has learned to bloom slowly
‘मीर’ उन नीमबाज़ आँखों से	From those half-open eyes, O 'Mir'
खुदा जाने क्या हो जो नज़रें उठा लें	God knows what will happen if they raise their eyes
करुँ ऐसा सज्दा वो घबरा के कह दें	If I bow in such a way, they might ask in fear
खुदा के लिये अब तो सर को उठा ले	For God's sake, now lift your head
तुम्हें बंदा परवर हमी जानते हैं	We know only you as the kind one
कभी हम से कभी गैरों से शनासाई है	Sometimes you are close to us, sometimes to others
बस तुमको हमी जानते हैं	We know only you
हर एक बात पे कहते हो तुम कि तू क्या है	You say in every conversation, "What are you?"
तुम्ही बताओ ये अंदाज़ ए गुफ़्तुगू क्या है	Tell me, what is this manner of speaking?
बस इतनी सी दूरी, ये मैं हूँ ये मंज़िल	This is the only distance between us, here I am, and there is the destination
कहाँ आके फूटे हैं पाँव के छाले	Where have the blisters on my feet burst?
