| Tumhari amaanat tumhare hawaale |

| Unki furqat mein koi neem sa ham dum na raha |
In their absence, not even half of a companion remains with me. |
| Ik shab e gham hai jo tanha mere ghar hoti hai |
A night of sorrow is all that visits my lonely home. |
| Zamaane pe unke karam dekhte hain |
We witness their grace on the world, |

The heart pleads, but the eyes fear shedding tears. |
| Aisi ulfat se woh jaate jaate mujhko apni kasam de gaye hain |
With such love, while leaving, they gave me their promise. |
| Siskiyan, dhadkane, aaho zaari, bekasi, bekali, beqaraari |
Sighs, heartbeats, groaning, helplessness, and restlessness. |
| Do ghadi ki mulaakaat mein woh kitna ranj-o-alam de gaye hain |

| Aakar bhi tadapaate hain |
They torment me even after arriving. |
| Jaakar bhi woh tadapaate hain |
And after leaving, they still torment me. |
| Marhaba maikashon ka mukaddar ab toh pina ibaadat hai 'Anwar' |
Salutations to the destiny of the drinkers, now drinking is worship, O Anwar. |
| Aaj rindon ko peene ki daawat waaiz-e-mohtaram de gaye hain |
Today, the preacher has invited the drunkards to drink. |
