| वीराने को आबाद तो कर सकता हूँ |
I can bring life to desolation |
| जब चाहूँ तुम्हें मिल नहीं सकता लेकिन |
I cannot meet you whenever I want, but |
| जब चाहूँ तुम्हें याद तो कर सकता हूँ |
I can remember you whenever I wish |
| कोई हँसे तो तुझे गम लगे, हँसी ना लगे |
If someone laughs, it feels like sorrow to you, not joy |
| कि दिल्लगी भी तेरे दिल को दिल्लगी ना लगे |
Even flirtation doesn’t seem playful to your heart anymore |
| तू रोज़ रोया करे उठ के चाँद रातों में |
You cry every night, waking under the moonlit skies |
| खुदा करे तेरा मेरे बगैर जी ना लगे |
May God make it so that you cannot live without me |
| अच्छी सूरत को सँवरने की जरूरत क्या हैं |
What need is there to beautify a beautiful face? |
| सादगी में भी कयामत की अदा होती हैं |
Simplicity too holds a charm that can cause havoc |
| तुम जो आ जाते हो मस्जिद में अदा करने नमाज |
When you come to the mosque to offer prayers |
| तुम को मालूम है, कितनों की कजा होती है |
Do you know how many miss their prayers because of you? |
| ये जो दीवाने से दो चार नज़र आते हैं |
Those few who appear insane |
| इन में कुछ साहिब-ए-असरार नज़र आते हैं |
Some of them seem to hold deep mysteries |
| तेरी महफ़िल का भरम रखते हैं सो जाते हैं |
They maintain the honor of your gathering by falling asleep |
| वरना ये लोग तो बेदार नज़र आते हैं |
Otherwise, they seem to always be awake |
| मेरे दामन में तो काँटों के सिवा कुछ भी नहीं |
There's nothing in my lap but thorns |
| आप फूलों के खरीदार नज़र आते हैं |
You seem to be a buyer of flowers |
| कल जिन्हें छू नहीं सकती थी फ़रिश्तों की नज़र |
Yesterday, even angels couldn't touch them |
| आज वो रौनक़-ए-बाज़ार नज़र आते हैं |
Today, they are the splendor of the marketplace |
| हश्र में कौन गवाही मेरी देगा ‘साग़र’ |
Who will testify for me on the Day of Judgment, Saagar? |
| सब तुम्हारे ही तरफ़-दार नज़र आते हैं |
It seems everyone is on your side |
| क़ासिद पयाम-ए-खत को देना बहुत न तूल |
Messenger, don’t take too long in delivering this letter |
| बस मुख़्तसर ये कहना के आँखें तरस गईं |
Just briefly say that my eyes are longing for you |
| कहना गलत-गलत तो छुपाना सही-सही |
If something is wrong, say it's wrong, if it's right, stay silent |
| क़ासिद कहा जो उसने बताना सही-सही |
Tell me, O messenger, what exactly did they say? |
| ये सुबह-सुबह चेहरे की, रंगत उड़ी हुई |
This early morning, the face looks pale |
| कल रात तुम कहाँ थे बताना सही-सही |
Tell me honestly, where were you last night |
| मैंने पूछा के कल शब् कहाँ थे |
I asked where you were last night |
| पहले शरमाये फिर हँस के बोले |
First, you blushed, then smiled and said |
| बात क्यों ऐसी तुम पूछते हो |
Why do you ask something like this |
| जो बताने के काबिल नहीं है |
That is not worth telling |

This faded complexion, these open hair strands |

Neither we understood nor did you come from somewhere |
| पसीना पोंछिये अपनी जबीं से |
Wipe the sweat from your forehead |

| दिल लेके मेरा हाँथ में कहते हैं मुझसे वो |
Taking my heart in hand, they say to me |

You are exchanging glances with stranger, While serving me my glass of wine |
| साकी तुम्हें कसम है पिलाना सही-सही |
Bartender, I swear, serve it right |
| नशा पिला कर गिराना तो सब को आता है |
Everyone knows how to make someone fall with intoxication |
| मज़ा तो तब है कि गिरतों को थाम ले साकी |
The real fun is when the bartender holds those who fall |
| नशा ईमान होता है, सुराही दीन होती है |
Intoxication is faith, and the wine jug is religion |
| जवानी की इबादत किस क़दर रंगीन होती है |
The worship of youth is so colorful |
| शराब-ए-नाब को दो आतिशा बना कर पिला |
Serve pure wine, making it double the fire |
| शराब कम है तो साक़ी नज़र मिला कर पिला |
If wine is short, bartender, serve it with a look |
| शराब का कोई अपना सरीह-ए-रंग नहीं |
Wine has no definite color of its own |
| शराब तज्ज़िया-ए-एहतिसाब करती है |
Wine performs the review of accountability |
| जो अहल-ए-दिल हैं बढ़ाती है आबरू उनकी |
It enhances the dignity of those with a heart |
| जो बे-शु’ऊर हैं उनको खराब करती है |
It ruins those who are unaware |
| साकी तुम्हें कसम है पिलाना सही-सही |
Bartender, I swear, serve it right |
| ऐ मय-फ़रोश भीड़ है तेरी दुकान पर |
O wine seller, there's a crowd at your shop |
| गाहक हैं हम भी माल दिखाना सही-सही |
We are also customers, show us the goods properly |
| ‘साजिद’ तो जान-ओ-दिल से फ़क़त आप का है बस |
'Sajid' belongs to you heart and soul |
| क्या आप भी हैं उसके बताना सही-सही |
But are you also her? Tell me honestly |
